Interesting TV Viewing Facts For 2018

We love Tele here at TV Bed Store (along with more than 28 million other households that have a TV!), so we compiled some facts about how we watch TV in the UK, in a TV Bed or not!

Overview

TV Ownership

TV ownership has been increasing rapidly every year since 2015 and as of 2018, more than 28 million households in the UK have at least one TV in them.

Check out the graph below which plots TV ownership in the UK over the past 14 years. It’s interesting to see that TV ownership actually declined in 2014 and 2015.

Multiple TVs

It used to be the case that there was one TV in a household that everyone would gather around to watch their favourite TV shows on. Now, over 15 million UK households have more than one TV and surprisingly, over 1 million households don’t have a TV at all. Take a look at the chart below for a more detailed breakdown.

Average Weekly TV Watching

How much TV is too much? We’re not sure, but what we do know is that on average, Brits so far in 2018 are watching on average 22 hours and 25 minutes of TV per week, down from 23 hours and 34 minutes in 2017 over the same period.

Take a look at the chart below to dig deeper into the data on a week-by-week basis.

Binge-Watching

With things like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Catch-up TV being available, more and more Brits are binge-watching entire TV series in a single sitting. But just how much are we binge-watching?

Those of us aged 16 – 24 do the most binge-watching, with 82% saying they do it at least monthly, with an incredible 11% of people aged 16 – 24 saying that they binge-watch each day!

Check out the chart below for a complete breakdown of binge-watching for different age ranges.
